Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
