This Dramatic Portrait
In the struggle between faith and wealth, the victory is clear for materialism in Michael Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top film adaptation about the fallen TV preacher and her criminal husband. The actor acts as the venal Jim, who states early on, asserting religious justification for riches. Both individuals begin profiting from the nation's spiritual convictions. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and insincerity, yet Jessica Chastain manages to present the real-life figure in a likable light. Next Tuesday, late night, the Film4 channel
